1. What are textile labels?
Textile labels are usually small labels made of nylon, taffeta, or polyester satin that are sewn into the inside of the garment so that they are invisible when worn.Textile labels are designed to convey important information about products such as clothing to consumers.

2. Objectives of the textile labels Act
To protect consumers from misrepresentation in labelling and advertising of textile fibre products;Enabling consumers to select textiles based on fibre content.

3. Taboos of textile labels law
The Textile Labelling Act prohibits:
Prohibit dealers from selling, importing into Canada or advertising prescribed consumer textiles unless such textiles indicate their fibre content and distributor identity under the Act and The Ordinance;
The distributor shall not make any statement in the advertisement as to the fibre content of the article except as stated under the Regulation;
No person shall make false or misleading statements in respect of textile fibre products by means of labels, advertising or other means.
The misleading Advertising and deceptive marketing practices section of the Competition Act may also apply.In general, these provisions prohibit materially false or misleading statements made for the purpose of promoting product or commercial interests.

4. Distributor’s responsibility for producing textile labels
“Distributor” means a manufacturer, processor, finisher or retailer of textile fibre products or a person engaged in the business of importing or selling any textile fibre product.It is the distributor’s responsibility to ensure that all information provided in labels and advertisements is accurate.

5. Textile labels consumption
The term “consumer textile” means any textile fibre, yarn or fabric or any product made in whole or in part of a textile fibre, yarn or fabric in a form which is available for sale to any person for consumption or use.This term does not include textile fibre products used in the manufacture, processing or finishing of any product for sale.

6. Textile labels – Fiber products
“Textile fibre product” means any textile consumer product and the textile fibre, yarn or fabric used or to be used in a textile consumer product.

7. Textile labels classification
Labels that contain information about fiber content fall into two categories: indicative labels and public labels.
Indicative labels are labels which contain any information relating to the textile fibre content of the articles to which they apply and may contain other information not required by the regulations.
A publicity label is a statement label containing the information required for consumer textiles in accordance with the provisions of the Act and regulations.Must include fiber content information expressed as a percentage of mass, as well as distributor identity information.Required and non-required information may be displayed on the same label.

8. What are the five different textile labels?
Textiles are made from a number of materials and come from four main sources: animals (wool, silk), plants (cotton, flax, jute, bamboo), minerals (asbestos, fiberglass) and synthetic materials (nylon, polyester, acrylic, rayon).The first three are natural.
